Week 1 of our challenge is almost here!! I am so excited by how many people have joined the event without me giving the details of what we will be doing over the next 90 days. Thank you so much for trusting me and joining the fun! Now let the challenge begin...
What if I told you, I had access to the fountain of youth and during the next 90 days, I want you to drink from that fountain? Would you do it? What if I went on to tell you that this substance will make you look younger, feel better, increase brain activity, get you energized, rid toxins from your body, make you feel full, lose weight, reduce stress on your body and mind, prevent headaches, decrease joint pain, take years off your skin, increase coordination and mobility, plus it'll allow you to exercise longer and harder without fatigue or muscle cramps? Would you want some?Well guess what; the fountain of youth is not a magic potion or substance... it's water!! That's right, water does all that and more!! It'll slow down the aging process from the inside out. Without it, we would not survive for more than three to four days. Starting March 23rd (and during the rest of this challenge) I challenge you to stay hydrated!
It's amazing how much energy and health benefits we get from a substance that is clear, has zero calories and is accessible right from our homes. But when you think about the fact that our bodies are 50% - 75% water, it makes sense why it would be so important. In addition to the benefits I have already mentioned, water promotes cardiovascular health. It transports oxygen and essential nutrients through our entire body and helps our heart pump blood through our body. 85% of our brain is water which is why it is crucial for cognitive function and memory. Water lubricates your spinal cord, joints and eyes. It eliminates waste which would otherwise poison the body and cause disease. It aids in digestion, from our saliva in our mouth to the water in our digestive track. Water regulates your body temperature by sweat and evaporation which helps maintain a healthy temperature protecting us from heat exhaustion and possibly heat stroke. It also balances hormones and helps regulate mood and emotion.
It's recommend that we drink half our body weight in ounces. Example: 150 pound person should drink 75 ounces a day. When you exercise, you need to increase your intake to make up for the extra water that is lost. If you are not consuming the recommended daily amount, I do not expect you to start right away. Slowly build up to consuming more water each and every day.
How:
Don't wait until you are thirsty to drink. This is a sign you are already dehydrated.
Leave a bottle of water on your nightstand. When your alarm goes off, drink!
When you think you're hungry and need a mid-afternoon snack, reach for a cup of water instead.
Pack your water for the day in your favorite bottles. It'll be a visual aid and a way to track consumption.
Infuse water with fruit and veggies to add taste and nutrients.
Replace soda, and other sugary (or diet) drinks with water. (Your waistline will love this tip)
Consume water before you exercise and every 20 minutes while exercising and after.
